Thin fresh water jar in Shigaraki style

This shape of mizusashi or fresh water jar is used in a particular tea procedure known as nakaoki, which occurs only in the last few weeks of October. As the chill of winter approaches (by Japanese reckoning winter runs from November through January), the volume of the fresh-water jar diminishes and it moves further away from the guests, to the far side of the brazier.
